crossbowman
Medieval ranged soldier
A crossbowman is a soldier or fighter armed with a crossbow—a weapon that shoots bolts using a horizontal bow mounted on a stock.
The term belongs mostly to medieval and fantasy contexts: The castle walls were defended by crossbowmen.
In historical warfare, crossbowmen were valued because the weapon required less training than a longbow.
