bowstring
Arrow-launching line
A bowstring is the taut cord connecting the two ends of an archer's bow, drawn back and released to propel an arrow.
The term extends to any similar taut cord or the structural element in a bowstring truss or bridge.
As a verb, to bowstring someone is to strangle them with a cord—a historical method of execution in Ottoman Turkey.
