celluloid
Old movie material
Celluloid is a type of plastic, historically the first to be commercially successful, used for photographic film and various manufactured items.
Because early motion pictures were shot on celluloid film, the word became associated with cinema itself: celluloid dreams, captured on celluloid.
The term now sounds nostalgic, evoking classic Hollywood before digital filmmaking.
