tournament
Series of matches
A tournament is a competition involving multiple contestants or teams in a series of games or matches.
Tournaments use various formats—single elimination, double elimination, round-robin—to determine a winner.
The word originally meant a medieval jousting contest: knights competing in tournament.
Now it applies to sports, games, and other competitions: a chess tournament, a golf tournament, March Madness is the NCAA basketball tournament.
