develop
Bring to maturity
When something develops it changes, sometimes in a desired way that makes it better, and sometimes without any perceived direction for better or worse: Tadpoles develop from embryos. As the story developed, more and more people began to suspect that information was being withheld.
When you develop something you introduce deliberate changes to it in order to bring it to a more advanced state: We’re developing several proposals aimed at winning grants to improve our facilities.
Develop can also suggest a process of investigation and experiment leading to invention or discovery: They are developing new drugs for the treatment of lupus.
