premiere

Film's first showing

A premiere is the first public performance or showing of a play, film, or other work: The movie had its world premiere at Cannes.

As a verb, to premiere is to have or give such a first showing: The series premieres next Thursday.

The adjective use meaning first or chief (the premiere authority on the subject) is less common and sometimes criticized, since that sense traditionally belongs to premier.
