bioscope

Primitive film device

A bioscope is an early motion picture projector or the film it showed, dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

In South African English, bioscope remains a common word for a movie theater: We're going to the bioscope tonight.

The term survives in South Africa long after falling out of use elsewhere.
