caballero

Chivalrous mounted Spaniard

Caballero is Spanish for gentleman or horseman, borrowed into English for contexts involving Spanish or Latin American culture.

It appears in Western films and novels as a term of respect: The caballero tipped his hat.

In Spanish-speaking regions, it labels men's restrooms, parallel to *damas* for women.
