blackguard

Morally corrupt person

A blackguard is a scoundrel or villain—someone thoroughly contemptible.

The word is old-fashioned and literary, appearing more often in period novels than contemporary speech: The blackguard cheated widows out of their savings.

It can also function as a verb meaning to abuse or revile: He blackguarded his opponents in the press.

Pronounced BLAG-erd.
