hospitaller
Order of Malta
A hospitaller is a member of a religious order dedicated to caring for the sick, poor, or travelers—combining monastic life with charitable service.
The term is most associated with the Knights Hospitaller, a medieval Catholic military order that began as hospital workers in Jerusalem before becoming crusading knights.
The hospitallers maintained refuges along pilgrimage routes.
