gaucho
Argentine plains rider
A gaucho is a South American cowboy, particularly from the grasslands of Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil.
Gauchos herded cattle on the pampas and became romanticized as rugged, independent figures—similar to how Americans mythologize the cowboy.
The word also describes a style of wide-legged, calf-length pants: gaucho pants.
