rider

One on horseback

A rider is someone who rides—a horse, a bicycle, a motorcycle, a bus.

The term extends to passengers generally: The subway had few riders at that hour.

In legal and legislative contexts, a rider is a clause or provision attached to a document, often slipped into a bill to pass something that couldn't succeed on its own: They added a rider to the spending bill.

A rider to a contract specifies additional terms or conditions.
