aye aye

Sailor's doubled assent

Aye aye is a nautical response meaning "yes, I understand and will comply," used when acknowledging an order from a superior: Aye aye, captain.

The doubling distinguishes it from a simple aye (yes)—the first aye confirms hearing the order, the second confirms intent to carry it out.

Outside naval contexts, it's often used playfully or sarcastically.
