arr
Sailor's theatrical growl
Arr is a pirate exclamation, or rather the stereotypical sound associated with pirates in popular culture: Arr, matey, there be treasure ahead!
The usage stems largely from film portrayals, particularly Robert Newton's Long John Silver in the 1950 *Treasure Island*.
Also spelled arrr or argh.
In texting, arr sometimes abbreviates "are."
