Second Temple
Herod's grand sanctuary
The Second Temple was the Jewish temple in Jerusalem that stood from approximately 516 BCE until its destruction by Rome in 70 CE.
It replaced Solomon's Temple after the Babylonian exile and became the center of Jewish religious life, expanded dramatically under Herod the Great.
Its destruction reshaped Judaism permanently, ending temple sacrifice and priesthood.
