pillars
Arcade's vertical supports
Pillars are vertical structures that support something above them—columns holding up a roof or bridge.
The word extends to anything that provides essential support: She was a pillar of the community.
The pillars of democracy are its foundational principles.
A pillar of strength is someone others rely on in difficult times.
To go from pillar to post is to move from place to place without settling.
