Hellenistic

Greek cultural period

Hellenistic describes the period of Greek civilization and culture from Alexander the Great's death (323 BCE) to Rome's conquest of Egypt (30 BCE).

During this era, Greek language, art, and ideas spread across the Mediterranean and Near East.

The term distinguishes this cosmopolitan, post-classical phase from earlier Hellenic Greek culture: Hellenistic sculpture, the Hellenistic world.
