Masada

Desert plateau fortress

Masada is an ancient hilltop fortress in Israel overlooking the Dead Sea, famous as the site where Jewish rebels held out against Roman siege in 73 CE, ultimately choosing mass suicide over capture.

The name has become symbolic of Jewish resistance and determination: a Masada complex describes a mindset of fighting to the death rather than surrendering.
