Landing

Landing is the act of coming to rest after movement through air or water—a plane touches down, a boat reaches shore, a gymnast sticks the dismount.

The word extends to any arrival at a destination: a lunar landing, the Normandy landings.

A landing is also a level area at the top of stairs or between flights, where you pause before continuing.
