view

What eyes take

The noun and verb view is related to vision and that connection provides a handy way of gathering its meanings.

As an uncountable noun, view is what you see: The mountains aren’t in view from here.

A view is a single instance of seeing something, especially something interesting or scenic: We had spectacular views from our hotel.

A view can also be one of multiple ways of looking at something: Look at the street view in Google Maps.

By extension, a view can be an opinion based on reasoning or experience: I’m not acquainted with his views on religion.

The verb view conveys seeing intentionally (we viewed the exhibition yesterday) or considering (she views all such protests as trivial).
