observing
Keeping eyes on
Observing is watching or noticing something with attention: I've been observing the birds in my backyard.
It often implies careful, sustained attention rather than a casual glance.
Observing can also mean following or adhering to rules, customs, or traditions: observing the Sabbath, observing proper etiquette.
Someone who is observing may be a passive witness or an active student of what unfolds.
