peek

Sneak a look

To peek is to look quickly or furtively, often through a small opening or from a concealed position: She peeked through the curtains.

A peek is such a glance: Take a peek at this.

The word suggests brevity and sometimes secrecy—you peek at something you're not supposed to see, or sneak a peek at a surprise.

Peek-a-boo is the game played with infants.

Not to be confused with peak or pique.
