notion

Something you sense

A notion is an idea, belief, or concept, often one that's vague or not fully formed: I had a notion that something was wrong.

It can suggest whimsy or impulse: She took a notion to learn piano.

In the plural, notions are small useful items sold in stores—buttons, thread, pins, ribbons—miscellaneous accessories for sewing and crafts.
