tithes
Religious tenth donations
Tithes are contributions of one-tenth of income or produce, traditionally given to support a church or clergy.
The practice has roots in ancient religious obligation but now extends to any regular giving to religious institutions: The congregation pays tithes every month.
To tithe is to give such a portion, or to levy it: They tithed their harvest.
