hoarding

Amassing beyond need

Hoarding is the compulsive accumulation of possessions, often to the point where living spaces become unusable: The house was filled floor to ceiling—classic hoarding behavior.

The word also describes stockpiling goods during shortages: hoarding of toilet paper, hoarding supplies.

In British English, a hoarding is a large outdoor billboard or a temporary fence around a construction site.
