tithe barn

Medieval tax warehouse

A tithe barn is a large medieval barn built to store the tenth part of agricultural produce owed to the church as a tithe.

These substantial stone or timber structures, found throughout England and parts of Europe, received grain, wool, and other goods collected from local farmers.

Many survive as historical landmarks: The old tithe barn has been converted into a wedding venue.
