presbytery

Clergy house area

A presbytery is the governing body of a Presbyterian church district, composed of ministers and elders from local congregations.

In Catholic and some Anglican churches, it refers to the residence of a parish priest, or architecturally, the eastern part of a church beyond the choir where the clergy officiate.

The matter was brought before the presbytery for decision.
