tags

Small category indicators

Tags are labels attached to things for identification—price tags on merchandise, name tags at conferences, dog tags on soldiers.

In computing, tags are keywords or code markers: HTML tags structure web pages, hashtags categorize social media posts.

To tag is to attach such a label, or to touch someone in the children's game of tag: You're it!

To tag along is to follow someone, usually uninvited.
