signatures
Names in ink
Signatures are names written in a person's distinctive handwriting, used to authorize documents, authenticate identity, or mark personal correspondence.
The way someone signs their name is itself called their signature, and people develop recognizable styles that serve as proof of authorship or agreement.
Beyond handwriting, signature extends to anything distinctive or characteristic: a chef's signature dish, a musician's signature sound.
In computing, signatures are blocks of text automatically appended to emails, or unique patterns that identify viruses and malware.
