JSON

Structured text interchange

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data format for storing and transmitting structured information, widely used in web applications and APIs.

Data is organized as key-value pairs and arrays in a human-readable text format: The server sends the response as JSON.

Though derived from JavaScript syntax, JSON is language-independent and has become the dominant format for data exchange on the web. (Lowercase json appears in filenames and casual usage.)
