bombing

Explosive aerial strike

Bombing is an attack using explosive devices, whether from aircraft, planted charges, or suicide bombers: The bombing killed dozens of civilians.

To bomb a place is to attack it this way.

In informal speech, bombing means failing spectacularly—a comedian bombs when jokes don't land, a movie bombs at the box office.

Conversely, in British slang, bombing can mean moving very fast: He went bombing down the motorway.
