binning
Grouping into containers
Binning is the act of throwing something away, especially in British English where a bin is a trash can: I'm binning these old magazines.
In data analysis and statistics, binning means grouping continuous values into discrete categories or ranges, as when survey responses are binned by age group.
The term also appears in manufacturing, where components are sorted into performance tiers—computer chips, for instance, are binned by speed grade after testing.
