Amazon

South American waterway

Amazon refers to the river in South America—the world's largest by volume—and the vast rainforest basin surrounding it.

The region is synonymous with biodiversity and environmental concern: Amazon deforestation continues to accelerate.

Amazon is also the American e-commerce and technology company founded by Jeff Bezos, now so dominant that the name has become shorthand for online retail itself: I'll just order it on Amazon. (Lowercase amazon is a tall, strong woman.)
