polygon
Closed angular figure
A polygon is a closed flat shape with straight sides—triangles, squares, pentagons, hexagons, and so on.
The term appears in geometry and everyday description: The stop sign is an octagon, an eight-sided polygon.
Regular polygons have equal sides and angles; irregular ones don't.
The word extends to any many-sided figure: The gerrymandered district formed a bizarre polygon.
