Flattened circular curve
An ellipse is an oval shape—a closed curve like a circle stretched along one axis.
In geometry, it's defined as the set of points whose distances from two fixed points (foci) sum to a constant.
Planetary orbits are ellipses.
In writing, ellipse sometimes substitutes for ellipsis, the three dots indicating omitted text, though this usage is disputed.
