square root

Finds the base

A square root of a number is another number that, when multiplied by itself, produces the original: the square root of 9 is 3, because 3 × 3 = 9.

Every positive number has two square roots—one positive, one negative—though square root usually refers to the positive one.

The square root symbol is √.
