Perimeter is the outer boundary of an enclosed area, or the total length of that boundary.
In geometry, you calculate the perimeter of a shape by adding the lengths of all its sides: The perimeter of a rectangle is twice the length plus twice the width.
More broadly, perimeter refers to the defended edge of a military position or secured zone: Guards patrolled the perimeter.
In basketball, the perimeter is the area beyond the lane but inside the three-point line.
