trapezoid

One parallel pair

A trapezoid is a four-sided polygon with at least one pair of parallel sides.

In American usage, exactly one pair is parallel; British usage calls this a trapezium and reserves trapezoid for quadrilaterals with no parallel sides.

The word appears most often in geometry classes: Calculate the area of the trapezoid.

The trapezius muscle in the upper back takes its name from the shape.
