equation
Two expressions balanced
An equation is a mathematical statement that two expressions are equal, connected by an equals sign: 2 + 2 = 4.
Solving an equation means finding values that make it true.
Outside mathematics, equation describes a complex situation where multiple factors must balance: the political equation, factoring climate change into the equation.
To say something is part of the equation acknowledges it as one element among several that matter.
