space
Unoccupied area or interval
Space as an uncountable noun is the name we give to the medium occupied by things, or the distance existing between them.
A particular space (countable noun) often has definite dimensions: Each cart occupies a space of nine feet square.
Space is used generally and abstractly to denote any area that may be occupied: There’s very little retail space in the city center. The building needs more parking space.
Space can also refer to time: Be sure to leave space in your schedule for writing.
As a verb, space usually means to leave intervals of time or space in something: Plants should be spaced at about 6 inches after thinning.
