hex

Witch's bad mojo

Hex has two unrelated sources in English.

One gives us a curse or spell, from Pennsylvania German folk magic: Someone put a hex on me.

To hex is to curse or bewitch.

The other hex is short for hexadecimal—the base-16 number system used in computing, where digits run 0–9 then A–F: The color code is in hex.
