absence
Failure to appear
Absence is the state of not being present or the lack of something: His absence from the meeting was noted.
It often implies that presence or existence is expected or normal: the absence of evidence, an absence of leadership.
In the phrase absence makes the heart grow fonder, distance supposedly increases affection.
An absence can also be a period of being away: After a long absence, she returned home.
