serology

Blood immunity study

Serology is the branch of medicine that studies blood serum, particularly antibodies and their reactions.

Serological tests detect antibodies to determine whether someone has been exposed to a particular infection: The serology came back positive for Lyme disease.

In clinical settings, serology often refers to the tests themselves rather than the broader field.
