forensics
Evidence analysis field
Forensics is the application of scientific methods to investigate crimes or legal matters.
Crime scene investigators use forensics to analyze evidence—fingerprints, DNA, ballistics.
The term also covers debate and public speaking competitions: She joined the forensics team in high school.
Both senses involve systematic argumentation and evidence, one in courtrooms, one in academic contests.
