paternity testing
Proving biological parentage
Paternity testing is the use of genetic analysis to determine whether a man is the biological father of a child.
DNA samples—typically from cheek swabs—are compared to establish whether the child inherited genetic markers from the alleged father.
Results are used in custody disputes, child support cases, and personal confirmation: The court ordered paternity testing before ruling on support payments.
