neutralization
Making chemically inert
Neutralization is the act of making something neutral—canceling out its effect, charge, or threat.
In chemistry, an acid and base neutralize each other, producing a neutral solution.
Military forces neutralize enemy positions by rendering them ineffective.
A country's neutralization removes it from conflict: the neutralization of Belgium in 1839.
The word often appears in clinical or strategic contexts where *eliminate* might sound too harsh.
