rubella
Rash-causing viral illness
Rubella is a contagious viral disease causing a red rash, fever, and swollen lymph nodes.
Also called German measles, it is usually mild in children and adults but dangerous during pregnancy, where infection can cause severe birth defects or miscarriage.
Vaccination has made rubella rare in developed countries: The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps, and rubella.
