cytomegalovirus

Common latent pathogen

Cytomegalovirus is a common herpes virus that infects most people at some point in life.

In healthy individuals it causes few or no symptoms, but it can be dangerous for those with weakened immune systems and for fetuses exposed in utero.

Often abbreviated CMV: The baby tested positive for congenital CMV.
