crossmatch
Pre-transfusion blood test
Crossmatch is a medical procedure that tests whether a donor's blood or tissue is compatible with a recipient's before a transfusion or transplant.
Laboratory technicians mix samples from both parties to check for harmful reactions, particularly antibodies that could cause the recipient's immune system to attack the donated material.
A positive crossmatch indicates incompatibility and rules out the donation; a negative crossmatch means the procedure can safely proceed.
The transplant was delayed while they ran a crossmatch.
