hemolysis
Red cell breakdown
Hemolysis is the rupture of red blood cells and the release of their contents into surrounding fluid.
It can occur naturally as cells age, or result from disease, toxins, or mismatched blood transfusions.
In laboratory settings, hemolysis in a blood sample can compromise test results.
Also spelled haemolysis in British English.
